Children's Clothing Guide

[I am an old Macy's employee, this information I am sharing we refer to as "product knowledge"]

CHILDREN — BOYS
Suggestions
As a general rule, boys don’t like to shop, but that doesn’t mean they don’t care how they look. Ask questions to find out what they like them present them with options.
Sizing
If a boy’s size is not known, take the age and add 1, which will usually be the size for an average-size child. Different brands have different sizing structures. Familiarize yourself with each brand’s size and read the labels.
Boys Will Be Boys
…and their clothes should reflect that. Be aware of current trends so you can help coordinate outfits for them if parents or friends / relatives are shopping without him.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is layette?
Layette is French for “baby linen.” It is used to describe the complete baby ensemble for the arrival home.

What is the typical investment of a layette?
A complete layette will cost about $350 and contains multiple units of the same or similar items. For example, 6 pairs of socks or booties. This way the new mom won’t have wash the items as often.

What sizes make up layette?
Layette: 0-9 months
Infant: 3-24 months

How should the layette pieces be cared for?
Machine wash warm on a gentle cycle. Use only non-chlorine bleach. Always read the labels first when sharing care information with your customers.

Is there a special way to wash infant clothing?

Yes. Wash all the clothes you purchase before the baby wears them to remove excess dyes. Wash with dye-free, scent-free, extra-gentle detergent. Stains should be removed immediately with dye-free, scent-free stain remover. If this does not work, use baking soda and club soda.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I’ve just started maternity shopping, what do I need?
There are a few essential must-haves to jump-start your maternity wardrobe and use as basic key items throughout your pregnancy. Some of the maternity essentials are a great pair of jeans, maternity bras and panties, at least two basic tees, two fashion tops and we suggest a pair of dressy and casual pants.

I don’t want to buy a lot of maternity clothes since I’ll never wear them again.
Not true! Today’s maternity clothes are trend appropriate and you can wear them even after giving birth. Tops with empire waists look cute with leggings as do the fitted tops. Even maternity jeans will fit you after giving birth, let me show you our Secret Fit under belly style.

What should I look for in maternity denim?
It is important to feel comfortable as your body changes. Select denim with a belly style that is comfortable for you and provides support where needed. Your maternity denim should fit your body and style preference just as your favorite pre-pregnancy denim.

Why do I need a maternity top when I can purchase a regular top a size or two larger?
Maternity tops are specially designed to accommodate a growing belly with a shirt that is longer in the front, and made with a fabric selection that grows and stretches with the body. Many of our tops feature side ruching, back ties, smocking or elastics for a fit that shapes the belly to show form.

When do I buy nursing bras?

It is best to start shopping for bras as soon as your regular clothes start feeling tight. Our sleep bras are doctor recommended and prevent sagging and stretch marks. We offer a variety of bras to fit your comfort and style preference after your baby is born.
